You will never find happiness until you clean the garden of your heart from the poisonous plants of envy, hatred, spite, and resentment.
Narrated An-Nu'man bin Bashir:
I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saying,
...Beware! There is a piece of flesh in the body if it becomes good (reformed) the whole body becomes good but if it gets spoilt the whole body gets spoilt and that is the heart.
[Sahih al-Bukhari 52]
those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness. and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). (Quran 91 : 9 - 10)
...there is no change in the words of Allah...
[Quran 10 : 64]
Ziyad bin `Ilaqah narrated from his uncle, that he said:
“[The Prophet (ﷺ)] used to say: ‘O Allah, I seek refuge in You from evil character, evil actions, and evil desires (Allāhumma innī a`ūdhu bika min munkarātil-akhlāqi wal-a`māli wal-ahwā’).’”
[Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3591]
What is envy ?
Non-acceptance of good in others.
Envy is the feeling of resentment or unhappiness because someone else has something good—such as wealth, success, beauty, knowledge, status, and blessings, etc.
In a simple way:
Envy means disliking the blessings that Allah has given to another person and wishing that those blessings would be taken away from them.
Envy is an inner fire that burns the one who carries it and lives with constant inner unrest and loses peace of mind.
I have so many examples, but I gave only three.
Your relative succeeds in education, gets a good job, or becomes successful in business, and instead of being happy for them, you feel upset.
Your friend has talented children, and you feel upset that they have abilities your children do not.
Your neighbour builds a beautiful house, buys a new car, or enjoys a comfortable life, and you resent the blessings Allah has given them.
To snatch away a person’s peace, only one thing is sufficient — and that is envy.
The envious person does not need any curses, because he is already burning in the fire of envy. The envious one is that unfortunate soul who burns in this world and will also burn in the Hereafter.
If you seek peace of mind, stay far away from destructive negative emotions the envy.
Allah SWT says in the Quran :
those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness. and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). (Quran 91 : 9 - 10)
Don’t go against Allah’s decree by envying [someone].
Allah SWT says in the Quran : Or do they envy mankind for what Allah hath given them of his bounty? ... (Qur'an 4:54)
Hasad ka koi faida nahi, bulandiyan to Allah SWT deta hai. Hasad karke Allah ke faisle ke khilaaf mat jawo, Allah SWT ki taqseem aur faislon par raazi ho jawo.
In another verse of the Quran, Allah SWT says:
Do not envy the way that God has made some of you excel over others... [Quran 4:32]
Allah SWT may be testing that person by blessing them with something good, to see whether they will be grateful to Him or not. At the same time, Allah SWT's blessing upon that person is also a test for you—to see whether you respond with envy or remain patient.
Pure Heart
It was narrated that ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr said:
“It was said to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): ‘Which of the people is best?’ He said: ‘Everyone who is pure of heart and sincere in speech.’ They said: ‘Sincere in speech, we know what this is, but what is pure of heart?’ He said: ‘It is (the heart) that is pious and pure, with no sin, injustice, rancor or envy in it.’”
[Sunan Ibn Majah 4216]
Man of paradise
Anas ibn Malik reported: We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah, [pbuh] and he said,
“Coming upon you now is a man from the people of Paradise.”
A man from the Ansar came whose beard was disheveled by the water of ablution and he was carrying both of his shoes with his left hand.
The next day the Prophet repeated the same words, and the man came in the same condition.
The third day the Prophet repeated the same again, and the man came in the same condition.
When the Prophet stood up to leave, Abdullah ibn Amr followed the man and he said, “I am in a dispute with my father and I have sworn not to enter my home for three days. May I stay with you?” The man said yes.
Abdullah stayed three nights with the man but he never saw him praying at night. Whenever he went to bed, he would remember Allah and rest until he woke up for morning prayer. Abdullah said that he never heard anything but good words from his mouth. When three nights had passed and he did not see anything special about his actions, Abdullah asked him, “O servant of Allah, I have not been in dispute with my father nor have I cut relations with him. I heard the Prophet say three times that a man from the people of Paradise was coming to us and then you came. I thought I should stay with you to see what you are doing that I should follow, but I did not see you do anything special. Why did the Prophet speak highly of you?” The man said, “I am as you have seen.” When Abdullah was about to leave, the man said,
“I am as you have seen, except that I do not find dishonesty in my soul towards the Muslims and
I do not envy anyone because of the good that Allah has given them.”
Abdullah said, “This is what you have achieved and it is something we have not accomplished.”

The Envier’s Greatest Loss and the Victim’s Greatest Gain
The Envier’s Worldly Loss
Lives with constant inner unrest and loses peace of mind.
The Envier’s Eternal Loss
If envy leads to backbiting, slander, or injustice, the envier's good deeds may be transferred to the one they wronged
and if he has no good deeds, the sins of the oppressed person will be loaded on him on the Day of Judgment.
The victim's worldly loss
Often none, especially if they ignore the envier and remain patient.
The Victim’s Benefit in the Hereafter
May receive the envier's good deeds as compensation for the injustice suffered
and if he has no good deeds, the sins of the oppressed person will be loaded on him.
It was narrated from Anas that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Envy consumes good deeds just as fire consumes wood...
