A man of bad character punishes his own soul.
You will never find happiness until you clean the garden of your heart from the poisonous plants of envy, hatred, spite, and resentment.
Narrated An-Nu'man bin Bashir:
I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saying,
...Beware! There is a piece of flesh in the body if it becomes good (reformed) the whole body becomes good but if it gets spoilt the whole body gets spoilt and that is the heart.

those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness. and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). (Quran 91 : 9 - 10)

Ziyad bin `Ilaqah narrated from his uncle, that he said:
“[The Prophet (ﷺ)] used to say: ‘O Allah, I seek refuge in You from evil character, evil actions, and evil desires (Allāhumma innī a`ūdhu bika min munkarātil-akhlāqi wal-a`māli wal-ahwā’).’”

Debt
Debt is a serious matter indeed!!.
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“The best of you - or among the best of you - are those who pay off their debts in the best manner.”
[Sunan Ibn Majah 2423]
Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Procrastination (delay) in paying debts by a wealthy man is injustice...
[Sahih al-Bukhari 2287]
Suhaib Al-Khair narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“ Any Man who takes out a loan, having resolved not to pay it back, will meet Allah (SWT) as a thief.”
[Sunan Ibn Majah 2410]
It was narrated from 'Amr bin Sharid that his father said that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“If one who can afford it delays repayment, his honor and punishment become permissible.”
[Sunan Ibn Majah 2427]
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“Whoever takes people's wealth with the intention of destroying it, Allah (SWT) will destroy him.”
[Sunan Ibn Majah 2411]
Narrated Thawban:
That the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Whoever dies and he is free of three: Kibr (Pride), Ghulul, and debt, he will enter paradise."

Abu Hurairah narrated that:
The Messenger of Allah said: "The believer's soul is suspended by his debt until it is settled for him."

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“The soul of the believer is attached to his debt until it is paid off.”
[Sunan Ibn Majah 2413]
It has been reported on the authority of 'Amr b. al-'As that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
All the sins of a Shahid (martyr) are forgiven except debt.
[Sahih Muslim 1886a]
Narrated Salama bin Al-Akwa`:
A dead person was brought to the Prophet (ﷺ) so that he might lead the funeral prayer for him. He asked, "Is he in debt?" When the people replied in the negative, he led the funeral prayer. Another dead person was brought and he asked, "Is he in debt?" They said, "Yes." He (refused to lead the prayer and) said, "Lead the prayer of your friend." Abu Qatada said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! I undertake to pay his debt." Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) then led his funeral prayer.
